with hijinks like these it's no wonder we are not even close to being considered equal par with other instruments.

#1 - taking those notes down the octave completely throws off the scoring and blend and timbre blend (in chorale sections esp.) AND intonation
#2 - i don't care what high school your at or how you play, i don't believe for a second that if half your guys drop to pedal D's and below that it sounds good or in-tune at all.
#3 - most professionals don't even like the way that stuff sounds

so, if you can evaluate the score and the work and you see, using your mind that you can displace yourself from the music and consider the ensemble blend, composers point of view, and conductor's, then you can take musical liberties. Dont do it otherwise. Piccolos don't just take things up the octave, do you know how BAD that would sound???
