Playing devil's advocate:
Why should a young tuba player have a tuba that "looks good"? I have always wondered why tubists put any stock in how an instrument looks. Shouldn't it only matter what the tuba sounds like when you play it? Of course within reason but really, would anybody rather play a shiny new piece of junk or a beat up old York, assuming everything works on both tubas? I don't mean to attack your statement but I had to ask because I'm curious why players feel the need for a pretty and shiny piece of equipment. Anybody want to try and explain this?
