That's true about Abe's horn, his King 4 rotary CC. He used this tuba on just about everything and he sounded great on it! But it has problems, like the valves are string action and there are numerous dents and dings all over it. But what a sound! I find it particularly amazing that he told me he paid $400 for it new. Can you imagine? Such a horn is worth thousands of dollars today. And it isn't even shiny!
By the way, is the tuba student you bought your 186 from someone I know? I was at Michigan between 1979 and 1985. I remember at least 3 guys who had 186's at school. I always try to keep up with my Michigan schoolmates, what a great bunch of tubists!
