Well said! As I have earlier stated, there are a lot of not-so-pretty tubas in school band rooms that play well, much better than some of the pretty-looking new student horns, often which are made poorly. When I was in college the person I bought a 186 from was a Michigan student. He said that one of Torchinski's (sp?) was an old beater, basically a modified King, that had a patch on the bell, but it played well and Abe was able to make it sound great. Appearnce is nice, but what is most important is the sound of the horn and how well the player likes the results (soundwise) that it gives.
