I know there's this modern bias against the bell front recording bass. What is the source of that bias? Does bell front give the tuba too much advantage over all the other bell front instruments in the orchestra (except horns)? Or is it a bias that has no justification. Why should the tuba blow sound into the loft instead the audience? Don't tell me that bass notes aren't directive, they are with the proper scale of the horn bell, its human hears that are none directive at bass notes because they are too small...
I don't recall there ever being an intonation complaint when I played a Conn 20J with bell to the front.
