ITEA Divisions

I was not a member of ITEA for many years but was back in the old days. The major focus back then seemed to be on getting new literature for the instruments, both tuba and euphonium.

Is it time for ITEA to have divisions within the organization? Use ITEA as the parent organization for the following: academic (college), professional player (orchestral, brass quintet, band, brass band, free lance, etc.), amateur. This would solve some of the problems that have always plagued the organization, i.e. who is the organization really for?

Conferences then could involve some from each genre. I believe more people from each group would be willing to become involved if they knew their voices and instruments would be heard. While we all want to aspire to the best performing level, that's not always the case. Many play simply because they love it. Why not acknowledge that by reaching out to that group in ITEA? They are, after all, the vast majority.

What do you think? Is it time for ITEA to divide to conquer?
