I have immense respect for Arnold Jacobs, particularly for his role in teaching wind techniques.
However...over the last few years, I have acquired many/most of the CSO recordings from the Jacobs' era, along with his solo recordings, and I find myself listening and scratching my head. Honestly, I just don't get it - what I mean by that is - the Jacobs version is never my favorite rendition of the piece, be it a solo or an orchestral work.
Is this just a matter of personal taste, or is there a problem with the specific recordings, or is it a problem with recordings of low brass in general, that I just don't get it when it comes to his playing.
Does anybody else feel this way about Jacobs recordings?
