I am so glad to read what you said about re-mastered recordings for CD's. Engineers who think they know more about music than Reiner did completely changed the tenor of the recordings.

I've been told by recording engineers that the bass on classical CD's is rolled off from the beginning, then they work the mix from there. I personally do not like the sound of CD's and your siting these examples is perfect.

Particularly, the recording of Alexander Nevsky is a marvel of tuba performance. The rest of the orchestra isn't so bad either.

It's pointless to try to make Jake a legend to people who just don't get it. People who studied with him, his colleagues... his conductors, all knew how rare and special were the gifts he brought to music.

I'll hoist one for Jake tonight. Bravo, Maestro.
