I've got a little 40-watt Magnavox home stereo that I have found to be the best dvice for listening to classical music.

About playing style changing, I listen to the Portrait of an Artist CD a lot and i notice that Jacobs' sound (style, whatever) changes whether he his playing in a group or playing a solo. The pieces with the quintet, or the trombone-tuba duet, Jacobs sounds absolutely like the biggest thing i've ever heard-just phenomenal. But on any solo passage, the sound changes, his tone thins out and the depth is not there. It's almost like that's what he wanted, to distinct "voices" to come out of his horn, dependign on the music.
