Mr Whitten, I appreciate your response which is pretty much what I would say in your position. But you prove my point. That teachers exist to create more students which pay tuition. And maybe after graduation those students can teach and play tuba all day as well.

I dont doubt your love for the tuba. And I think the tuba is wonderful and we should carry on the tuba tradition in the US as long as we can.

Personally, I felt misled by many teachers on my prospects of playing as a professional. I never had any desire to teach which was well known to them.

Do you think that someone should ever be told the truth? Even if its - "you SUCK!"?

Or should that person be given a median scholarship at a small college or even a conservatory because the school needs the tuition money and the teachers need to get paid? Leading that person into a career which is not for them and toying with their dreams.

Some might call that a disservice.
