The point is not that you can get a gig without a degree, but that the education is valuable whether or not it leads to a gig.

Why do we persist in measuring success in life by the size of the paycheck?

I submit that those who have DMA's and are flipping burgers in their 40's are flipping burgers by choice. I know too many DMA's who are making decent livings for themselves and their families (and not in music) to believe otherwise.

And I'm really opposed to student loans for education, though I don't mind it for job training. Just don't go to a college undergraduate program execting job training; that's not what they deliver.
