My thoughts on a very intersting new tuba.
My student got his new Fafner tuba today. Dave Fedderly suggested that this would be a very good tuba for a student looking for something in BBb and now that it is here i would say it's great!!!
I own a Canadian brass CB-50, and meinl Weston 45slp, and A 6/4 Holton cut by Bob Rusk. And for me the Fafner tuba plays as well as the
Canadian Brass tuba but with a sound as big as the 6/4 holton. In other words it has the sound of a Mac truck, but drives like a nice sports car.
The sound is really nice, and very nimble for a tuba this size. I would highly recomend this tuba to anybody looking for a serious amount of tuba
The intonation is not as perfect as the Cb-50, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Very managable
One of the best "untweeked" outta the box tubas I've ever played. My CB-50 still holds the number one spot in my heart, but this tuba really plays and sounds great.
It doesn't feel like a 6/4 beast, but man does it play. Sweet sound!!!
