I think Klaus is right. I had a friend who, when in Germany, played one of the "Hilgers" model BBb's which was based on the old Berlin Philharmonic tuba. He said it was a great horn, very easy to play, a lot of sound to boot. However, I believe that they are all "handmade", which makes them very expensive. The new Fafner model, from what the website says, is pretty much a new design alltogether. I can't wait to try one myself as the non-handmade ones are well priced. The handmade ones are priced like the Hilger's models though, probably for the discriminating BBb market in Europe. I think the secret of the new Fafner is a bel that has tendencies towards the 2145's and 2155's type shape, which have been very popular for the amount of sound and agility they demonstrate for their respective sizes.
