It seems that a lot of people would like to have a great F tuba for solo work, but they are disappointed with the low registers. I know my first tries on F tubas could be summed up as : YUK! To me it sounded like a bad baritone. ( or a distressed goose )
In some senses it seems to me (in my ignorance) that some kinf of double tuba, say a Bb/F
combo would make sense. From looking in the Tuba Source Book I know one manufacturer makes a double tuba.
So my question is : Is a double tuba a valid concept ? Anyone here ever play one ? Other than being cost prohibitive, what keeps this from catching on ?
