I played on a CC/F tuba a few years ago at midwest, made by a prominant manufacturer, and found that it was neither a great CC nor a great FF, and was extremely heavy and somewhat awkward to hold. In addition, I found the response to be very unusual. I think that the biggest drawback, aside for ergonomics, would be that it is unlikely to get both the ideal F and CC in one instrument. That is, there will most likely be a CC that is better, and an F that is better. A good comparison is the Chevrolet El Camino: not really a truck, and not really a car (no offense to any owners out there).

However, I have heard a story (don't know how true it is) that Mr. Jacobs played one (BBb/F) on one of the Pictures recordings. Anyone know if this is true?
