I've been considering what all has been said and speculated about the recent tuba auditions in Boston, and I have had a change of heart. I realize that I may indeed be the only person in the world who feels this way. However, I challenge you to consider the situation from a different perspective. Any successful and well-managed organization be it of traditional business or musical in nature should take their employment decisions very seriously and make them very carefully. Out in the traditional and non-musical business world it is common place for employment searches to be a multi-phase effort during which job candidates get screened (interviewed) more than once. This employment process is studied, lectured upon, and even considered a "science" by Corporate America. It is how the American work force is developed, maintained, and improved.
Is what the BSO is doing really so bad? I personally don't think so.
Go ahead...let me have it. I know I probably just rustled someone's feathers.
