I can agree that many of the applicants might play the audition as well as Chester but after listening to the last thirty years of B.S.O.and Pops concerts I have never heard anyone with as consistantly beautiful a sound.Face it guys, the audition may be about technique but the job is sound, intonation, and getting with the trombones.Mabye that's why they took so long to find a player for Chicago. But I do agree that any of the guys in the finale could do the job very well.Part of the problem now too is that everyone is so advanced, and the material is limited, they can all play the hell out of it.But to my old friend Ray N.,the guys who subbed for him over the years are undoubtedly great but I could tell by the second or third tuba entrance that it wasn't Chester.EdF
