With reference to the San Jose Symphony, I can't understand why that orchestra isn't better supported. San Jose is the eleventh largest city in the United States; is a center of great wealth (Silicon Valley and many other industries); and is populated with a large number of high-income, well-educated, cultured people.

Nearby San Francisco (a relatively small city) seems to do well supporting THREE orchestras (SF Symphony, SF Opera, SF Ballet). Is it possible that the SF orchestras compete too well for Bay area ticket sales? Are San Jose Symphony managers overpaid and/or are there too many of them?

I am hoping the SJS can be saved. It's a very fine orchestra.
