Eb vs CC

OK, I know that this is a frequent topic on the tubenet. And yes, I have searched the archives, so please don't blast me too much about bringing it up again.

I am a music ed major and I own a B&S pt4. I bought it because I was told that it was a good, versatile horn and is fine for solo and quintet work as well as orchestral stuff. I really love the horn, but as I sit and squeak out the notes in the VW cadenza, I keep thinking that it would be much easier (and sound much better to the audience) on a smaller horn.

My budget will only afford me one horn, however and my question is this: How would a larger EEb (I have been looking at the Besson 983) work out in a band or orchestra setting? Having never played one, I really don't know. These days, I am playing more small group stuff (church, quintets and pit orchestras) than anything, but I still do the large ensemble stuff as well.

What say ye, o tuba masters? Stick it out on the B&S or sell it and pick up an Eb?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Russell
