Joe, there's nothing wrong with your exercise. It's an excellent exercise, but its stupid of you to attach such strong statements to it. "that's why most didn't advance,because of lack of great air control?" Its such a narrow minded, limiting statement. When's the last time you heard a lot of the guys that were in the semis? Or some of the guys that didn't get out of the prelims (Chris Hall, etc.) Or when's the last time you went to one of these auditions? Sure there's alot of the typical college practice jocks that you notoriously hate, but there's alot of guys that can play the crap out of the tuba, who have excellent "breath control", breath control is only part of the audition. I dont understand why you love getting flamed? The exercise you explain is great, and it would point out alot of flaws in people's playing, but its ridiculous for you to judge these people you haven't heard. "Everyone didn't advance because they didn't do ______________ " give me a break. You're too in love with your opinion.
