I completely agree with you...

The violin technique lends itself much more to a far wider variety of articulations.

The tuba (though much more could be done by more of its players) is played by many as an instrument that is "hit" (choice of "T" or "D" hits, and no other choices, as far as many seem to be concerned) in order to commence sounds.
