Yesterday afternoon the SFYO and the S.F Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Alasdair Neale, performed the Mahler 2nd Symphony. In a word, it was amazing! At the work's conclusion, a packed Davis Hall came to it's feet and roared it's approval of a truly remarkable musical experience. It is impossible to believe that this organization consists of musicians ranging in age from 12 to 20. Every section is superb, and the ensemble plays as if it has been together for years and years. I must mention the first trombone player, who, according to my program is named Nick Boone-Lutz. (He is easily identified by his flaming red hair!) This young man has a tone quality that should be heard by all aspiring student's of the instrument. In addition, he played the exposed part flawlessly.

The orchestra is preparing for a tour, in June, to Russia, Lithuania, and Ireland. However, before they leave, they will be performing at Davis Hall on the evening of the 16th.of June. Featured, will be John Nakamatsu (Van Cliburn winner) performing the Mendelssohn 1st. Piano Concerto. They are also programming the Tschaikovsky Fifth Symphony for that evening. If you are anywhere near the Bay Area, you must come and hear this orchestra. Be advised, that these concerts always sell out.

Again, congratulations to the director, all the coaches, and all the wonderful musicians that comprise this phenomenal organization.
