That's interesting, because Nicholas Boone-Lutz plays bass trombone, and is way too conservative to dye his hair red. I know, because he worked for me at the Tower Records Classical Annex in S.F. Nick is very tall, if that helps at all. Anyway, I have trouble believing that this might have been a really good concert. We've been very lucky in Mahler, here in S.F. IMHO, Davies Hall is one of the best halls anywhere for the Mahler 2nd, and Mahler 8th. It has a big, loud pipe organ (not very subtle), and tons of space for multiple choruses behind the orchestra. Tilson Thomas does the 8th symphony in early June.
