Besides the obvious insites received from auditing interpretations performed on other instruments, frankly a cello in a chamber setting (particularly a cellist of Kronos caliber) I think would simply record with much more clarity than a tuba in the back of an orchestra in a large hall. Again, in addition to any interpretitive insights there is the audio-clarity issue...

(ie. On which instrument can one hear technical/expressive details with with more clarity? a bassoon in a practice room or a euphonium in a cathedral?)

and I think our anti-cello friend might be enlightened if he were to audit recordings by Casals, Ma, Jeanrenaud, et al.
