I agree that we should listen to other great performers, however, we're talking about an original tuba solo here, not a transcription for tuba. If you're performing a transcription, then listen to a great artist perform it on the instrument it was originally intended. If Revueltas had intended the solo for cello, then he would have given it to the cello. As far as string quartets "stealing" our music, who cares? As tuba/euph. players, we are just as guilty. Try playing any French Horn concerto around a Horn player and see if they don't get a little upset. Also, if you're talking variety in solos/orchestra, just look at all the different soloists/orchestras that have recorded the same works. There are many interpretations among all of them. I have no less than 5 recordings of Sensamaya. It is my opinion, that I like what Norm Pearson does best with the LA Phil. Sorry to ramble.
