effective ranges of BBb CC EEb F

I was looking at Sean's fingering charts and saw that he has fingerings for all four of these types from a very low F to a high Eb. Isn't it true, however, that, for example, the really low notes would be very tough on an F tuba and the high notes tough on a BBb?

OR do the different tubas exist more for different overall sounds, styles? In other words, can I get virtually the same range from an EEb or F as from a CC or BBb with perhaps a bigger, darker sound from the latter? Or what?

OK, I'm both naive and confused . . . and I want convincing that I can get the sound I want (BIG) from a smaller horn . . . and I don't want to learn a new set of fingerings.

Thanks for any help or advice.
