As a new band director at a small school, I have been contemplating how to increase membership in my band program. Right now I have 18 kids in the marching band, and I don't expect more than 30 for concert band. That got me thinking, would it be feasible to switch from the traditional band program to a 5-12 brass band program. As americans are we "married" to the concert band, or would a brass band in a school system work? I understand there are many factors the initially would set me back; financing, instrumentation at the beginner level, etc... But if you started everyone on just Cornet, Horn, and Trombone, than switched at the appropriate time...
Please let me know what you think. I am not a brass band junkie, the thought just popped into my mind and I wonder what you people think
