I've had good experience with Amtrak into Dallas. It's cheap ($50 from Baltimore to Dallas when I bought my CC), it's rather safe (train cars are a lot closer to the ground than planes are), and it's nearly worry free (you can get as much insurance as you want plus package tracking). The chances of the horn getting lost of treated badly as minimized as well since once the horn is on the train it may not get touched until you go pick it up.

I've been told that Greyhound is ok, but a few months back I beleive they lost one poster's 2165.

I agree that no consensus can be found within the archives, but they are worth reading so you can draw your own conclusions based on the experiences of others.
