I had a large Kaiser rotary valve tuba shipped from PA to CA via Greyhound, and the box arrived looking like it was brand new. Just the opposite of my experience using FedEX.
If you pack defensively, any carrier is ok. The only reservation I have with Greyhound is that they have a limit on their insurance coverage which is below the value of any tuba. If you can find another source for insurance, then Greyhound is definitely the best way to go. The cost to ship cross country via Greyhound was $68. Via FedEx it was
$280. UPS would not take it due to size.
