I bought a Blue Tube pre-amp with my CD writer and Rode stereo mike. I am getting a far better sound quality than I did with the MD and the AT822. I have not yet figured out which component(s) make the difference; but the salesman in the store where I bought it listened very carefully to what I didn't like about my previous setup, and told me that the pre-amp would make a huge difference. However, for close-up recording, I find that I have the knobs on the pre-amp at zero; in a hall, I have it turned up quite a bit.
It could be that the Blue Tube (two-channel) would improve your recording quality a lot. I bought my stuff locally because I want to be able to take it back if it has problems.
