Ah, there's the rub. Flexibility (and the associated economic factors) versus the preamp/mic signal chain. As an audio profesional and euph player, I assert that (IMHO) the preamp/mic combo directly into the CD burner (or computer soundcard) should give you far superior results than any small mixer in the price range comparable to the two channel preamp (Presonus/Blue Tube at about $150.00 US - see Musician's Friend). The mic preamps in any mixer within the $600 range are vastly inferior the preamp above (and it's an inexpensive model). Just my .02 worth.
