I've had pretty good luck with my Sony MZ-N707. I have the Sony 907 mic for use in my lessons and then I have an Audio Technica AT822 for audition/rehearsals/etc stuff.
I'm on the hunt for a good preamp, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!
