Thanks for the info. I thought the 981 had a slightly lower pipe when did Besson change it? I would have liked a new 981 but they are too expensive and I wouldn't be able to use it for marching. A band I used to play for had a Sovereign made around the late 1980's with the horizontal leadpipe and that was perfect, if anything perhaps lower than needed (I rest the instrument on a chair instead of my lap). I have seen plenty of the older Sovereigns around that would be perfect for reasonable money but they are all lacquered and I need a silver one :-(
Have you an opinion over the Yamaha equivalent? and can I ask why you prefer the 981 to the 982 the only reason the band bought these was for the marching attachments.
