Not to ruffle any feathers, but this issue has been discussed in the past on the tubaeuph listserve. The jist of the comments made were in two catagories.
Money was said to have been a factor in the original recordings. The LSO as an ensemble was simply less expensive to use as opposed to a an American unionized ensemble. I am a member of Tulsa Local 94, so by no means is this union bashing. The second issue was sight-reading ability. Some said that the British folk tended to read better resulting in less rehearsal time and fewer takes, which brings us back around to the issue of money.
Does anyone have first hand knowledge of these behind the scene dealings? A first hand account of the situation would be interesting to hear.
