I meant no disrespect to the LSO musicians sight reading abilities. LSO is one of the worlds great orhestras and is one of my favorites. London has many fine musicians, in all styles, with great sight reading abilities. It's a studio town like LA so that makes sense.
However this is an American film made in Hollywood so whenever a major portion of the production is moved from LA there are usually underlying reasons. More often than not it is M-O-N-E-Y
John Williams used the LSO in the original Star Wars for budget reasons most likely. If in fact he, not the producer, chose the LSO for the sequels it was for continuity.
