No Dents, Scratches, or Dings?

OK, I have something new to ponder...
I spend around a few hours a day on my horns (tuba and / or bass bone depending on the day) in either practice, rehersal, or performance and have taken them all over the place. Over time they pick up scratches, dings, and the occasional dent in addition to lacquer wear. (Yes, I know I am not as gentle as some of you out there.)
SO.......
How can it be that I see so many horns for sale on 'that' auction site that have been used and played by 'pros' but have No Dents, No Scratches, and No Dings at all? I maybe can see that with a trumpet, but a tuba?? What is the secret to playing your horn regularly, traveling with it, and keeping it IMMACULATE? Even the best cases do not protect the horn when it is out of them, when most minor things occur. Am I missing something?
