I've been pondering something for awhile and I wanted to get you guys and gals thoughts on this. I'm getting close finishing my master's in tuba and the stress is starting to get to me. I've been trying to decide what to do next. Do I pursue a doctorate? If so, then where? But lately, I starting wonder if I want or even need to get a DMA. I enjoy teaching, but my main thrust is to be a professional musician.
I guess my question to you all is, is it really worth it and will it bring me any closer to my goal as a pro tuba player and college level teacher? I've spent the last seven years in college and graduate school and have put myself into substantial debt. If I can avoid anymore school, that would be great relief.
Okay, I know this a touchy subject for some and I apoligize. What I'm interested in from you folks is your experiences dealing dealing with education and how it affects real world performance. Any thoughts or opinions?
Tracy
