If you have a chair that is long enough to accomodate the horn on a prop, that is the better way to go, in my opinion. I futzed with the stand for years, with mostly good results, but it ended up with me getting more neck pain, because of my embouchure shifts.

My recent solution has been some dense foam pads that I found in Tokyo, at a store called Tokyu Hands. They come in may different thicknesses, and can be stacked at the right height for any chair you may come in contact with (unless your horn is too tall for you to begin with!). I have not done any research here in the States to find out who supplies this type of foam, but that is because of laziness.
