for CJH: The big York-style horns usually have a mouthpipe that doesn't wrap all the way around the bell, and the horn requires (often) a bit of vertical axis tilt to meet the mouthpiece squarely. It looks like the stand works better/easier for this style of horn and especially for taller folks. Myself, I am a big guy at 6'3"...as reference Pokorny's a big guy too. Using the chair isn't an option, mouthpipe too low. Padding? ok sure, especially for folks who don't like sitting on the edge of their chair. Maybe I won't like the stand either-but as often as I use my big 6/4 Holton, and as heavy as it is, it's worth a try!
