It's interesting that tuba players are the only bass instrumentalists that seem to think that vibrato is a bad thing when you are playing a bass line. Cellists in string quartets certainly use vibrato even when they're not playing solo lines. Watch the string bass section of any great orchestra, they'll likely be using vibrato most of the time. Even in woodwind quintets, I've heard bassoonists using vibrato on bass lines. How come it works for everyone but tubists?
