Maybe, for a simpler reason than tubing expansion, would adding a 5th after the valves on a rotary require too large of a linkage mechanism?

I know, we see "tuning sticks" and palm-sized levers and such, but I've never seen those used for a playing valve, and that size of mechanism is the only way I can see to operate a 5th that's placed after a rotary stack.

Like I said, "just a thought"...

P.S. -- a 5th on a BBb definitely helps low C and enables a low B on a non-comp tuba (along with several other notes -- for me, low Db, low Eb, low E, and the B above those); that doesn't mean false tones should be avoided, though.
