Bring a roll with you, and check the bag at the gate, NOT at the counter. Airport officials get suspicious of taped up packages, which is why you should bring the roll of tape with you... if you tape it up at home, they may very likely ask you to open it up. Once you've got the case checked, secure the end of the roll to your case, grab the roll, and walk laps around your case until it's good and mummified. There's no way that horn is coming out by accident.
