Overly sharp tuba

I have a B&S PT4P tuba that I absolutely love. The horn has two problems that I see, it plays consitently sharp and has an incredibly long stroke on the valves. I know that I can have a new tuning slide made but would I be better off with a factory made one or a repairman-made one from some one like Matt Walters? It is not that I don't trust any one it is just that I love my tuba and don't want to give it to some one and get it back and have it playing terribly. To the valves, is their anything that I can do to fix this problem or is this a hopless cause? One more question for you faithful BBSers, how can I contact the B&S factory to inquire about prices? They probably have a website but I don't know it. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
