The sharpness MAY be caused by the way you are playing the horn; too much lip, not enough air flow. Go play for your local pro tuba player, or university tuba teacher and see what (s)he says. Have someone else play the horn and see if THEY are playing it sharp, too. IF so, then it's easy to add some tubing to the tuning slide and it SHOULDN'T affect the way the horn plays. As for the valve stroke, nothing you can do about it on a piston valved tuba.
