The only problem with fund raising for equipment and supplies is that it can come back to haunt you. A HS band in a big district in our state a few years ago raised its own money to get new uniforms for the band instead of waiting for the 10 year cycle to get to them. Their uniforms were 5 years old and looked ok, but they couldn't wait. They raise the funds quickly and had new uni's before the next school year. The district was so impressed and pleased that the band parent's organization took the initiative and looked after their kids that the district pulled all the uniform funds going to the other 10 HS schools in the district and told them to raise their own money for replacement uniforms. After 15 or so years, the district stopped this policy and started to get uniforms for the schools after the band parents complained to the school board. I always told my parent groups that if we fund raise, it will be for an elective trip or for items the school should not have to pay for (like color guard instuctors or refreshments for FB games). Just a thought.
