You might also organize some fund-raising efforts. It amazes me that bands raise funds for junket-type trips but don't think of doing that to help meet their basic needs.
You as a parent have as much access to publicity as anyone else on this issue. It is a lot easier to have a say over how money you have raised is spent than it is to try to force a school board to choose between band instruments and English teachers (or school psychologists or guidance counselors), the latter of which are required by state and federal law.
