I've been wearing "aids" for well over a year now. My left ear has substantial loss, the
right has lost the high frequencies. I still play in my church orchestra and in the local community band. At the recommendation of my audiologist I turn the aids off (even though they are digital and automatically turn off when the sound level reaches a dangerous level) while playing, just turn on the right one so I can understand speech when the conductor is talking. I have a good friend who is a fantastic trumpeter who lost his hearing almost over night (virus?). He wears two "aids" and was told he was the oldest participant ever in the Rafael Mendez (sp?) Brass Festival in Cincinati a couple of year ago. So, let me encourage you to continue to play, you really do learn to
pay attention to "feel" even if you no longer hear perfectly.
