I have seen correspondences on Mr. Jacobs OTHER tuba (during March 2000) on DAIML, DHAMELS tuba, which was brought to CSO by F Reiner. Mr Jacobs and Richard found interesting tone possibility and marverous sound quality. Looks Mr Jacobs had a problem in fingering and intonation. In other note, Tony Clemens added fingering.

In Austria, the same system (Viennese system) instrument is used in several orchestras. It was used till 1995 in Vienna Philharmonic by Mr. Hummel. This tuba is best in intonation, as revealed by scientific measurement. Maybe, right fingering was not known by Mr. Jacobs. Left whole/half/short whole/ Right 1.33/0.66/perfect 4th. The detail is in my text published in 1998 from Doblinger, Vienna:
Zechmeister, Gerhard: Concert tuba. Systematic embouchure development, training and review programme for the Viennese six-valve Bass Tuba in F (Viennese Concert Tuba). Also for the six valve Viennese Contra-Bass Trombone in F (Viennese Tuba Fingering System) and for all F, E Flat C and Double Tubas (with fingering tables). Doblinger, Vienna, Austria.

The tonal quality is best in tuba instrument. Musica (UMI, Austria), Alexander, Hirsbrunner etc. produce Viennese systems. The Viennese tuba can cover both F-Tuba and Contrabass Tuba region, if well trained. Worth to try! Different world will come.
