Well, I learned to double tongue first. I then learned triple tonguing. And I can use either T-K-T or T-T-K but I much prefer the former. But let's be clear here, triple tonguing using T-K-T is not simply double tonguing everything. All you're doing is moving the K syllable from the second to the third note. So when I triple tongue, it sounds like T-K-T, T-K-T, T-K-T, etc. This is absolutely not the same as T-K-T, K-T-K, T-K-T! I would also assert that a T-K-T configuration better defines the triplet rhythm than the T-T-K option. By putting the stronger articulations on the first and third notes of the triplet, you're putting the emphasis on the rhythmically significant parts of the rhythm.

I'd be curious to hear what others think of this. Even though I can do it both ways (no snide comments!) I much prefer the T-K-T pattern. Comments?
