I was sort of under the impression that the plating's worn away from the valves on this particular horn, but that it still plays wonderfully and responds wonderfully. It's a Conn from the 'teens. Did Conns make horns with no plating on the valves at one point?
As I said, the owner is suggesting NOT to plate the valves, just leave them as is, as the instrument is performing so well as is. Could it be possible they were never plated to begin with, or were all Conn pistons plated?
